Meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken May 17, 2021

After the first meeting in Copenhagen: Minister Pele Broberg had his first talk with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Pele Broberg is looking forward to the visit of the US Secretary of State in Kangerlussuaq.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Business, Trade and Climate Pele Broberg participated in a meeting with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday 17th of May 2021 in Copenhagen together with the Danish and Faroese Foreign Ministers.

The meeting was for Minister Pele Broberg a prelude to Antony Blinken's upcoming visit in Kangerlussuaq.

Minister Pele Broberg said in his address to the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, that the importance of Greenland's role for the North American and transatlantic security was recognized in connection with the agreements of 28th of October 2020. This recognition of Greenland's role has both a symbolic and principal value.

Minister Pele Broberg further emphasized the need for de-escalation and stability as basic elements for economic growth and transparency in the Arctic. The work to implement the cooperation agreement of 28th of October between Greenland and the US has been initiated, and Greenland will focus on establishing formal trade and investment agreements.

Pele Broberg said:
"I look forward, together with the Prime Minister of Greenland, to welcome the US Secretary of State to Greenland. Here we will seek to promote Greenlandic-American relations. The development of the bilateral relationship with the United States, especially in the area of trade and investment, is a key factor in the development of the relationship between Greenland and the United States.”
