Successfull annual Iceland-Greenland High Level Officials meeting in Nuuk


The annual High Level Officials meeting between Iceland and Greenland was held on September 27 2018 in Nuuk. The annual meetings on the officials level is a follow up on the Joint Declaration between Iceland and Greenland from 2013. The purpose of the declaration is to expand and improve cooperation between Iceland and Greenland within the fisheries, healthcare, tourism, trade and the veterinary sectors.

This High Level Officials forum has previously set up a working group with the goal of looking at the opportunities for an improved cooperation in the aviation sector between Iceland and Greenland. During the meeting in Nuuk, representatives from the working group informed about a new report with recommendations for improved aviation cooperation between Iceland and Greenland. The report now awaits political consideration.

During the meeting both the Icelandic and Greenlandic delegations discussed mutual cooperation within fisheries, healthcare, tourism, trade and the veterinary sector. Furthermore both sides welcomed the opening of the Greenlandic representation in Reykjavik.
The High-level officials look forward to further cooperation during Iceland's upcoming chairmanship in the Nordic Council of Minister and the Arctic Council.

To conclude the meeting the parties agreed to set up a working group to come up with recommendations on how Iceland and Greenland can improve the exchange of students and exchange of staff competences within the Icelandic Foreign Ministry and the Self Rule Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
