Nalunaq A/S is a subsidiary of AEX Gold Inc and the rights holder to licence 2003/05 in South Greenland. The consultation is the company’s declaration that Nalunaq plans to start an exploitation project.

Map section: Nalunaq A/S licence 2003/05 is highlighted in yellow

The consultation documents comprise the following (all in Greenlandic/Danish/English):

  1. Draft terms of reference for Social Impact Assessment (SIA) - GL
  2. Draft terms of reference for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - GL
  3. Draft terms of reference for Social Impact Assessment (SIA) - DK
  4. Draft terms of reference for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - DK
  5. Draft terms of reference for Social Impact Assessment (SIA) - ENG
  6. Draft terms of reference for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - ENG

The consultation can be considered as a formal declaration that the company wants a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process carried out. The announcement is made by the company informing the authorities and enclosing the draft terms of reference for the EIA and SIA reports, respectively. Further information about the process for the preparation of the SIA report and the EIA report are stated in the “Guidelines on minerals projects on the process and preparation of the SIA report” and ”Guidelines for preparation of an EIA report (Environmental Impact Assessment) for mineral extraction in Greenland”.

Pursuant to the Mineral Resources Act, draft terms of reference for the SIA and EIA reports, respectively, should be submitted for 35 days’ consultation. On the basis of input from the consultation, the company will determine the final content in terms of reference and in the later draft SIA and EIA reports.

On equal footing with the consultation responses received in the eight-week public consultation on the reports, the consultation responses received in the course of the pre-hearing will be included in a White Paper. The company will prepare two White Papers during the EIA and SIA process. One further to the consultation on the draft terms of reference and one for the eight-week consultation period on the reports. The White Papers will contain significant consultation comments, the responses to these and a memo on where relevant comments and suggestions will be incorporated in the final versions of the terms of reference for the EIA and SIA reports, respectively.

Deadline for responses: 16:00 on 12 January 2021.

Consultation responses should be submitted to the Mineral Resources Authority, PO Box 930, 3900 Nuuk, or mlsa@nanoq.gl
