The substance PCB was previously used in electronic equipment and construction materials such as sealants, paints, and double-glazed windows. Today we know that the substance is non-biodegradable and harmful to the environment and human health.
Ban on PCB
It is forbidden to use PCB today, but PCB’s are still found in some buildings. Before a building is to be renovated or demolished, an investigation must be carried out into whether the building contains PCB materials. PCB-containing waste is hazardous waste and must be managed properly to avoid the PCB’s spreading to the surroundings with harmful effects to the environment and to public health.
