Municipal waste management

Waste management is a municipal matter. Within the framework of municipal autonomy, each municipality has a major influence on how waste is managed locally.

Municipal waste management

Municipalities are responsible for collection of domestic refuse, sewage, and bulky waste. It is also the municipality that has responsibility for the spring clean-up each year after the thaw. The municipality must provide a disposal option for waste in both towns and settlements. Disposal options can be incineration, land-fill deposition, or recycling.

Municipalities themselves are to organise the local systems for the waste treatment based on their respective waste plans and waste regulations; these may be found on the municipality websites.
