The Department of Environment and Contingency Management

Welcome to the Department of Environment and Contingency Management.
The Department of Environment and Contingency Management comes under the Ministry of
Independence, Nature, Environment and Agriculture.

The department administers legislation on environmental protection to ensure clean air, water and

soil, and good living conditions for people, animals and nature. We aim to ensure clean fresh water

on land, to provide citizens with access to clean drinking water, and to ensure clean and sustainable

marine areas.

On the topic of contingency management, the department administers a number of areas regarding

the safety of citizens and society’s measures against accidents and disasters. We also handle the

secretariat function for the Emergency Services Commission. The Emergency Services Commission

is the organisational focal point for the overall transverse crisis management between the

Greenlandic and Danish authorities.

All citizens are at any time welcome to contact the Department of Environment and Contingency

Management.
