General information:

  • Ilulissat was founded in 1741 as Jakobshavn. With approximately 4530 residents, it is the third largest town in Greenland.
  • Ilulissat has 4 surrounding villages and 3500 sled dogs.
  • Knud Rasmussen was born in Ilulissat, and his house is now a museum dedicated to his life and expeditions.
  • Ilulissat means ‘icebergs’.

Electrical sockets (outlets) in Greenland supply electricity between 220 and 240 volts AC. For the most part, electrical sockets are the “Type K” Danish SRAF 1962/DB or “Type C” European CEE 7/16 Europlug. If your appliance’s plug doesn’t match the shape of these sockets, you will need to bring a travel adapter in order to plug in.
